The Irony of Energy Saving Bulbs

My old roommate used to bitch about wasting energy. Anything from running the air conditioner to leaving the lights on while not in the room would piss him off. Oddly enough he always left the TV on. Oh well. Anyway, one of my light bulbs in my kitchen burnt out after just a month or two of using it. I decided to try out a GE energy smart flood light because it apparently uses 15 Watts instead of 65 Watts but still puts out the same level of lighting. I called bullshit before I even turned it on but decided that it couldn't be that bad. It was only a few dollars so it's not the end of the world if it wasn't perfect.

When I got home I tried it out and first noticed that it was visibly dimmer than the other, regular, bulb in the kitchen. I left the light on and walked away.

When I got back to eat my delicious pizza I notice that the light was about 8 times brighter than it was before. I turned off the light and flipped it back on and saw that it was dim again. Shucks, I thought. It takes forever for the damn thing to light up! What's the point of a light if it doesn't illuminate things for me?

I eventually decided that I would just leave the light on all the time so it can illuminate my kitchen. Obviously this slightly throws off the energy saving costs. I guess I'll wait to go green until General Electric can develop something worthwhile. Until next time sirs and ma'ams.
